Fitzwilliam College Chapel Choir gave a Christmas Concert at Little St Mary's Church, Cambridge, on Thursday 1st December, raising just over £200 for Wintercomfort for the Homeless (Registered Charity Number 1003083).
The choir was conducted by William Warns (Music 2009, Senior Organ Scholar) and accompanied on the organ by Pawel Rzemieniecki (Maths 2010, Junior Organ Scholar). The programme included a piece composed by Dennis Doyle (Music 1947), 'I sing of a maiden', and the premiere of 'The Word Became Flesh' composed for the choir by Jonathan Woolgar (Music 2010). Jonathan Cooper (Chemical Engineering 2009) gave a sensitive performance of 'Comfort ye' from Handel's 'Messiah' and John Rutter's duet 'Angels' Carol' was beautifully sung by Sally Graham (Law 2010) and Stephanie Taylor (Medicine 2009), both accompanied by William Warns.
At the end of the concert, the audience helped the choir to raise the roof with a rousing rendition of 'O come all ye faithful' and before the choir gave a suitably Christmassy close to proceedings with a choral arrangement of 'The Christmas Song: Chestnuts roasting on an open fire'.
The concert brought a fantastic close to an outstanding term for the Choir, and the choir members are delighted to have been able to raise over £200 for Wintercomfort.
