Profile

David Cole is a Senior Lecturer in Cambridge University Engineering Department (CUED). He joined Fitzwilliam as an undergraduate in 1982 and graduated with a BA in Engineering in 1985. He was sponsored by Rolls-Royce Motors during his time as an undergraduate and worked there for a year after graduating. He then returned to CUED to undertake research in the field of vehicle dynamics, obtaining a PhD in 1990. After further research he took up a lectureship in mechanical engineering at the University of Nottingham. In 2000 he returned to CUED and Fitzwilliam. His research is concerned with measuring, understanding and modelling the dynamic interaction between drivers and vehicles. Much of the research is performed in collaboration with the automotive industry. In Fitzwilliam he supervises various subjects in Part I of the engineering course. In CUED his teaching is mainly concerned with mechanical engineering topics in Part II of the course.
