Non-Academic Scholarships & Prizes

All awards carry a value of £100 unless otherwise stated. At the end of the academic year, the Tutorial Committee identifies undergraduates or graduates meeting the criteria and awards them directly.

Fitzwilliam Society Stratton Prize

Established by the Fitzwilliam Society to commemorate Sir John Stratton (English, Archaeology and Anthropology, 1929-32).

Prestige of Fitzwilliam

These awards are made for furthering the prestige of the College through achievement or outstanding example.

W F Reddaway Prizes
  • Outstanding achievement in any field, in the opinion of the Master and Tutors
Established in 1966 by a gift from King's College together with gifts from Mrs W F Reddaway and her family, between 1958-63, in memory of W F Reddaway (Censor, 1907-24, Lecturer in History, 1896-1907).

Drama

  • Significant contribution to drama in the College
  • If there are no suitable candidates, contributions to drama in the University are considered
  • Undergraduates in their final year eligible only
Part of a gift of silver by Richard Anthony Collinssplatt (Postgraduate Diploma in Education, 1963-64).

Music

Alkan Society Piano Scholarship
  • Best performance in piano competition, to involve:
    • Public performance of 2 works, 1 by Alkan (specified), 1 of candidate's choice (approved)
    • Examined by the Musical Director, a Senior Member of the Music Society and a member of the Alkan Society
Established in 2001 by gifts from Dr K C A Smith, the Alkan Society and Granta Electronics Ltd.
Collinssplatt Silver Tankards - Music Tankard
  • Significant contribution to music in the College
  • If there are no suitable candidates, contributions to music in the University are considered
  • Undergraduates in their final year eligible only

Swinburne Senior Prize for Music
  • Outstanding contribution to the musical life of the College
  • All students eligible - not just Music students
  • Shared prize in exceptional circumstances
Established in 2001 by a gift from Dr K A Swinburne (1950) who read Medical Sciences.
Thatcher Music Scholarships
  • Organ scholars eligible only
Established in 1963 by subscriptions from 9 former Presidents of the Fitzwilliam Society, to endow an Organ Scholarship in the name of W S Thatcher (Censor, 1924-54). Since 1991, the income is used to support 1 or 2 organ scholars.
