Cambridge Geography Department
Progress in Geography Conference: Monday 24th June 2013
Fitzwilliam holds an annual one-day conference for sixth-formers intending to study Geography at university and for their teachers.
This popular conference aims to update lower Sixth Formers and teachers on current issues in geographical research - and to provide potential applicants with an opportunity to visit one of the leading colleges for Geography in the University.
The conference runs from 10.30 to 16.30 in the College Auditorium. The conference consists of a series of 45-minute sessions on topical subjects in Geography, with plenty of time allowed for discussion. During breaks and lunch, conference attendees have the opportunity to meet Fellows who teach Geography at Fitzwilliam, as well as current Geography students. The programme for this year's conference, including lecture titles, will be e-mailed to attendees after the booking deadline. As an example, last year's programme can be viewed at the bottom of the page.
There are 150 places available, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis; but please note that the College can accept a maximum of five students and/or teachers from each school or Sixth Form college. The cost of the conference is £10 per person and lunch is included, as well as refreshments throughout the day.
For those students and teachers who are unable to travel to Fitzwilliam and back in one day, limited accommodation is available in College for the night before the conference (Sunday 23rd June). The cost is £10.50 for bed and breakfast. Breakfast is served in the Cafe Bar. Available accommodation is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The deadline for booking this event is 12 noon on Thursday 13 June 2013.
