Applying as a Mature Student
Applicants who will be aged 21 or over at the commencement of their course are classed as 'Mature'.
Fitzwilliam welcomes applications from Mature students. Each case is considered on its merits and prospective applicants are urged to contact the Admissions office as early as possible for guidance. We realise that not all Mature students are attending full-time education and this is taken into consideration. In assessing the potential of a mature student, we will seek evidence of recent academic achievement.
Our standard entry requirement is A*AA grades at A level (or equivalent qualifications) excluding General Studies. Competition for places in all subjects at this College is intense and as a Mature candidate you would be competing against candidates who will be studying three, four and even five A levels in one sitting. As well as academic achievement, at interview we seek to explore a candidate's motivation and commitment to their subject.
Mature candidates may also wish to consider applying to one of the four Colleges for Mature students: Hughes Hall, St Edmund's, Wolfson and Lucy Cavendish (women only). The closing date for applications for entry in 2012 is 15 October 2011. Mature candidates also need to apply through UCAS.
