Financial assistance

If you find that some of your sources of funding for your course are no longer available, the College and the University will try to help you. However, sources of financial aid are very limited and there is no guarantee that funding will be granted.

Some funds that provide financial assistance have strict deadlines; others will accept applications through the year.

The Cambridge Bursary Scheme. This University fund is primarily for undergraduates, but some UK graduate students - for example, those studying medicine or PGCE - do qualify. It is worth reading through the details of the scheme - or contacting the University - in order to check your own eligibility.

Access to Learning Fund. Principally for home students, this fund supports students on low incomes, students with children, or others who may need further funding in order to retain access to higher education.

Fitzwilliam College Maintenance Bursaries. Assistance with living costs, awarded based on assessment of individual circumstances. All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply.

Your Tutor

If you apply for any financial assistance, the support of your College Tutor will be required - and in general, if you find yourself in financial difficulties, your Tutor should be your first point of contact. The name of your Tutor can be found in CamSis, in the 'My Advisors' section.

Financial undertaking

To secure your place on a graduate course, you will have signed a legally-binding Financial Undertaking form and so informed the University of Cambridge that you have access to sufficient funds to meet the costs of your course. If this has ceased to be true, you should not start your course. Unfortunately, in many cases in which a source of funding has become unavailable, the best thing is to withdraw from the course.
