Kitchen fixed charge

The "kitchen fixed charge" will appear on your College Bill at the start of each term. It represents a contribution to fixed overhead costs for the College's catering operations, as well as library and squash court charges. Graduate students are able to choose one of two options for the charge.

Option A

Your kitchen fixed charge itself is reduced, but you pay an additional "minimum meals charge". Your termly bill for meals in the College Buttery is offset against this, so you can spend up to the amount of the minimum charge in the Buttery without making any payments (although you will still need your College card).

Spending in the Buttery above the minimum charge will be charged to your College account in the usual way. In addition, if you spend more than double the minimum, you will recieve a 10% discount on the excess. Option A is the 'default'; College bills will be prepared to include Option A unless otherwise specified.

Student living with dependent family, privately or in College property.

Option B

With this option, the kitchen fixed charge is higher but there is no minimum meals charge.

Student living on main College site

£176.00 per term

Student living in College property (off main site) or privately.

£67.50 per term

Student living with dependent family, privately or in College property.

£30.50 per term

Charges for meals

The cost of each meal is debited to your Buttery Account at the till. If you have paid a minimum meals charge (see above), your account will be in credit by the amount of the charge. You can request a statement of your account at the till. The balance of your spending in the Buttery will appear on your College bill at the beginning of the following term. There is a credit limit of £250.00.

Changing your option

College bills are automatically prepared to include Option A. To switch to Option B (which does not include a minimum meals charge) contact Mrs Jo Measham in the College Bursary before the first day of term. During your first term in Cambridge, you have an additional week's grace in which to choose or change your option - but after that date, changes will not be able to be implemented until the following term.
