Non-Academic Funds

The following funds exist to support non-academic activities. Students may also be awarded Scholarships and Prizes for outstanding extra-curricular contributions to College life.

Student Opportunities Fund

The Student Opportunities Fund, established in 2009 through donations from members of the College, offers assistance to junior members, directly or indirectly, in taking advantage of academic or extra-curricular opportunities.

The Student Opportunities Fund provides Vacation Research Grants for Undergraduates, Research Grants for Graduates, Language Study Grants, Travel Awards, Community Project Grants and Sports Bursaries.

The Tutorial Committee may also make grants outside these designated schemes to support appropriate activities and societies.  Applicants are encouraged to discuss proposals with their Tutor or the Senior Tutor in the first instance.

Fitzwilliam Society Milner Walton Music and Drama Fund

The Milner Walton Fund was established in 1998 to support drama and music in Fitzwilliam.

Applications are invited from Fitzwilliam students for a grant from the fund in support of a drama or music project to be undertaken in the current academic year.  Applications (on one side of a single A4 sheet) should briefly describe the proposed project and state how a grant would be used.  Applications should be submitted to the Tutorial Administrator (L11) by Friday 26 November 2010.

Master's Gift Fund

The Master's Gift Fund provides awards to individuals to support extracurricular activities which are not supported by the JMA, such as University sport, and theatrical or musical activities outside College. Applications should be made through the Tutor to the Master, and can be made at any time.

The E D Davies Fund (Music)

Students may apply for a grant to assist with Music Lessons.  Applications in the form of a letter and copies of receipts should be sent to the Senior Tutor.  Awards to students reading Music are up to £50 per lesson with a maximum of £400 per annum, and for students not reading Music awards are up to £20 per lesson with a maximum of £200 per annum.

The Dorothy Pounds Music Fund

Students may apply for a grant from this fund to assist with their musical activities.  Financial assistance is also available to groups of three of more players (in which at least half of the group should be members of Fitzwilliam) for professional coaching for the preparation of works for Fitzwilliam College concerts.  Students should approach their Tutor in the first instance.
