ICM: Affording Housing in Cambridge, London and Manchester

Thu, 02/11/2017 - 19:00 to 20:00
Auditorium
In Conversation with the Master: with Jonathan Rose – designer of the Master Plan for North West Cambridge (Eddington) and Matthew Gardiner (Geography 1975) CEO of the Trafford Housing Trust.

Matthew Gardiner, Chief Executive of Trafford Housing Trust in Manchester - and Jonathan Rose, architect and master planner for North West Cambridge will discuss how can we all afford to live - and provide attractive and inclusive new places for communities to grow in Cambridge, Manchester and London.

Using Eddington, Old Trafford in Manchester and Old Oak Common in London as live case studies, the Master will discuss what affording sustainable high quality housing really means in the context of:

Land as a scarce resource (greenfield vs brownfield development);

The challenges of increasing density considering life quality for all households;

Social, economic and environmental imperatives – who invests and why?

How technology can help us build faster and smarter?

Other paradigms – what can we learn from Singapore and the Netherlands?
