Progress in English Studies Conference
Following the success of our first Progress in English Studies Conference in 2016, the 2017 Conference will be held on Monday 20th March 2017.
This event is aimed at year 12 (lower sixth form) students and their teachers from maintained-sector schools, who are interested in finding out more about studying English at Cambridge and, in particular, at Fitzwilliam College. It also offers delegates who are considering reading English at degree level a sense of what it might be like to attend university lectures. Three of our English Fellows will deliver mini-lectures on a variety of topics showcasing some of the more recent, exciting developments in their research fields and in the teaching of English at Cambridge. This part of the programme aims to provide a stimulus to students wanting to extend their thinking beyond the core elements of their A-Level syllabus. Visitors will also have the chance to experience another aspect of the Cambridge teaching and learning environment by taking part in small-group discussions with Fitzwilliam staff and undergraduates.
In addition, the day will set out to provide visiting student and teachers with information about the Cambridge Admissions process. There will also be opportunities to meet and talk to current Fitzwilliam English students and to take informal tours of the college.
The number of places available at the conference is very limited. Schools are therefore invited to book places for up to two students and one teacher. Bookings should be made using the online booking form below, no later than 10th March:
