Career initiatives

The Fitzwilliam Society is leading a number of career initiatives that link alumni with students to provide careers advice and help. Whatever career path you have taken there will be a Fitzwilliam student who would appreciate your help and advice, especially given today's challenging jobs market.

Here's how you can get involved:

  • Come along to the Careers Fair in November to chat with students over tea and biscuits

  • Make a gift to the Student Opportunities Fund, which amongst other support provides travel grants to students to help them undertake work experience placements

  • Let the Development Office know about any work experience or internship opportunities for students at your organisation.

Please contact the Development Office for more information. They would be delighted to hear from you.

The Careers Fair is a friendly and informal event. The next Careers Fair will be in November 2020, and booking will open in autumn 2020.

The Fair is now an annual event which is popular with Fitz students; in 2018, we welcomed back over 40 alumni and 150 students. The students gain a lot from the opportunity to chat with alumni in a laid-back setting, with one student praising the "unintimidating environment with lots of really friendly and helpful alumni" and the fact it was "a relaxed way to have insightful discussions about potential careers". The Fair is a great way to meet "engaged, intelligent and enthusiastic" students, as one alumnus commented, and to network with fellow alumni. It also provides an opportunity to find interns or recruits.

The Fair takes place in the Dining Hall, and is followed by a special drinks reception and buffet in the SCR.
