The motion is: "This House would have Britain pay reparations to the peoples of the former Empire."
The debating competition will take place on Tuesday 5 February 2019 at 8.30pm in the Gordon Cameron Lecture Theatre. Two teams, each of three speakers, will compete. Each speaker will have 8 minutes. While the Judges retire to confer, there will be a floor debate.
The Fitzwilliam Society Trust has kindly provided two prizes each of £100, which will be awarded to individual speakers.
All students are welcome to attend the debate and there will be an award of £20 for the best extempore speech from the floor, also kindly provided by the Fitzwilliam Society Trust.
*Those wishing to compete as speakers should send their names to fitzwilliamdebating@gmail.com by 29 January 2019*.
Those taking part will be invited to attend dinner on High Table prior to the debate. Fellows and those taking part in the debate will dine on High Table - 7.00pm pre-dinner reception and 7.30pm dinner.
