Fitzwilliam College Economics & Finance Society will be hosting an online talk by Dr. Marc Levinson on the topic:
Outside the Box: How Globalization Changed from Moving Stuff to Spreading Ideas, based on his recent book.
Marc Levinson is an independent historian and economist whose career has centered on making complex economic issues understandable to the general public. He was formerly finance and economics editor of The Economist in London, an economist at JP Morgan, and a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. His books include the classic The Box, which explains how a simple innovation, the shipping container, made globalization possible, and An Extraordinary Time, exploring how the end of the postwar boom in the 1970s brought a political turn to the right around the world.
His new book Outside the Box is an unorthodox history of how globalisation developed, why it went too far, and how it is being reshaped.
