The Epic of Gilgamesh

The President’s Guest Night on 21 February featured a pre-dinner performance of the ancient Sumerian tale 'The Epic of Gilgamesh'.

Gilgamesh, god-King of Uruk, who reigned nearly 5,000 years ago, undertakes heroic feats with his companion Enkidu, but is unable to achieve the immortality he desires.

The work was dramatized by Francis Knights and directed by Dr Martin Parker Dixon (Bye-Fellow in Music), with incidental music composed and played by Catherine Groom (Director of Music). The five actors included Fitz English students Corinne Clark and Callum Hill, with Joe Edwards, Ruth Warren and Chris Ainsworth-Patrick.
