To mark the 250th anniversary of the great German Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) on 25 June, Music Fellow Francis Knights organized a special Festival of his music at Sidney Sussex College.
Francis (playing organ and harpsichord) was joined by Dr Dan Tidhar (Wolfson College) on harpsichord and Adrian Lenthall (Emmanuel College) on clavichord for four recitals showcasing the variety of Telemann's keyboard music.
The programme comprised sonatas, overtures, fantasias, fugues and chorale preludes, including repertoire that is rarely heard in recitals. More information on the event can be found here.
In the past few years Francis has set up a number of anniversary festivals in Cambridge, including events dedicated to the Renaissance and Baroque composers Purcell (2009), Louis Couperin (2011), Dowland (2013), Duphly (2015) and Froberger (2016). The next festivals will feature the music of François Couperin (2018), Marchand (2019) and Beethoven (2020).
