Promotions for Fellows 2020

Congratulations to all of the Fitz fellows who have been recognised in this year's Cambridge University academic promotions.

Five Fellows of Fitzwilliam College have been promoted, with effect from 1 October 2020.

Promotion to Professorship

Simon Gathercole, Fellow and Director of Studies in Theology, Fitzwilliam College, becomes a Professor in the Faculty of Divinity.

Simon is currently accepting applications for PhD students.

Promotion to Readership

Subha Mukherji, Faculty of English.

Emma Lees, Department of Land Economy. 

Richard Powell, Department of Geography. 

Andrew Jardine, Department of Physics.

President of Fitzwilliam College Jonathan Cullen said: “Fitzwilliam College celebrates the achievements of all its Fellows, but in particular welcomes the promotion to Professorship for Simon Gathercole (Divinty), to Readerships for Subha Mukherji (English), Emma Lees (Land Economy), Richard Charles Powell (Geography) and Andrew Jardine (Physics).”

Cambridge researchers Professor Shankar Balasubramanian (Fitzwilliam, 1985) and Professor David Klenerman have been awarded the Millennium Technology Prize for their development of revolutionary DNA sequencing techniques.
Repeated lockdowns have restricted many of the social activities of Cambridge clubs and societies, and students have had to be creative! As restrictions start to lift, Fitz student Hassan Raja (History, 2018) has launched the Cambridge Photo Club, and we took the chance to follow them on a photo walk.
The College is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter O’Connor to the role of Development Director from June 2021. Peter will succeed Dr Nicola Jones, who moved to the recently-created post of Director of Communications and Engagement in December 2020.
