Dr Hazem Awad

Research Associate

Awad is an engineer and researcher in combustion. He works on finding innovative solutions for the reduction of harmful emissions which result from the burning of fossil fuels. Awad holds a MSc from Alexandria University (Egypt) and a PhD from Newcastle University (UK). During his PhD, Awad proposed modelling equations and provided a detailed physical understanding of MILD combustion, which will eventually contribute to the reduction of harmful emissions emitted from the energy sector. Currently, he is a research associate in the Energy group at the University of Cambridge where he works in accordance with Rolls Royce in the design of a hydrogen-fueled aircrafts engines that can help deliver net zero carbon by 2050.

Research interests are: Combustion, MILD combustion, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Reacting multiphase flows, Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS), Large Eddy Simulation (LES), low-order modelling, Ignition modelling and Aircrafts combustors design.
