Undergraduate life at Fitzwilliam

Social life

At Fitzwilliam we know that College life isn’t all about work, therefore we offer a whole host of extra-curricular activities to our undergraduate students.

Fitzwilliam College has earned a strong sporting reputation across many sports, our Football Club is one of the best in the University, with an excellent Cuppers record. Our Fitz Netball Club has also enjoyed impressive league performances. The College possesses two of the best squash courts in Cambridge. The courts are available for all to use, and can easily be booked in the Porters’ Lodge. We also benefit from being a short walk away from our sports field. The College has a recently-refurbished multi-gym on site which all students can access for free and our boathouse is a short cycle away.

Our excellent practice facilities means Fitzwilliam has a strong reputation for music. The College is home to two a cappella groups – the Fitz Sirens and Fitz Barbershop. The Fitz Sirens being Cambridge's oldest all-female a cappella group.

We also have an art studio on-site, a thriving Amnesty International Society and even the radio studio of CamFM.

Academic community

Fitzwilliam provides a world-class academic environment that offers personally-tailored support from when you begin studying right up to when you take your examsgraduate and begin your career. You will have access to great on-site facilities such as our brand new Olisa Library. The library is open 24/7 and provides 200 study spaces.

Thinking green

At Fitzwilliam College we are committed to making a positive impact on the environment. We have a dedicated and active Environmental Committee made up of Fellows, staff and students who work together to develop green initiatives and increase awareness of environmental issues within College.

The College provides students with a range of opportunities to get involved with environmental initiatives, such as the annual FitzOff competition and Meat-Free Mondays in the Buttery.

Dining facilities

Students have a variety of options for dining at Fitzwilliam College. Students can eat together in our Buttery (dining hall), our Buttery serves food every lunch and dinner in the week, and brunch and dinner at the weekends.

Our lovely coffee shop symbolises the open and welcoming nature of the College: it’s an informal space where students, staff and teaching Fellows meet over coffee and homemade cake.

Finally, all College accommodation features communal kitchens where residents can cook their own food. Find out more about food and drink here.
