Clubs & Societies

A good life balance is important, and while your academic work will often be your main focus during your time at Fitz, we encourage you to make the most of the wide range of student-organised activities happening in College and across the wider University. Whether it's top-level Blues (University) football, a regular session in the gym, time on the college allotments, or a discussion group on a particular subject, you'll find plenty of opportunities to socialise and explore your interests.

Societies

Fitz's student societies are as varied as our student body - from subject-related discussion groups, and intellectual activities, such as debating, world cinema and faith-based groups, to informal musical ensembles, hobbies and social campaigning, there is quite literally something for everyone. And if there isn't the society to engage with the activity you're passionate about...you can form one!  There are a number of dedicated sources of funding to which you can apply to help with any associated costs.

Some societies have existed at Fitz for many years, some come and go based on student interest. The current list of active societies are: Amnesty International Society, ArtSoc, Choir, Christian Union, Debating Society, Economics and Finance Society, Fitz Barbershop, Fitz Sirens, Fitz Swing, Fitz Theatre, Gardening, History Society, Horror Society, Jack and Master, Jewish Society, Law Society, Literary Society, Medical and Veterinary Society, MixBillys, Music Society, Natural Sciences Society, World Cinema Society.

Key to great performance are great facilities. All Fitz students can make free use of the following:

Gym

The two-storey College multi-gym was opened in 2015.  The gym features a number of weights, running and workout equipment. All members of College can use the gym, following their induction, and specific Women's and NB hours are available.

Oxford Road playing fields

For sports requiring plenty of space, such as cricket and football, the College playing fields are available for use. The fields are located on Oxford Road, five mins walk from the College.

Boathouse

The College Boat Club's new boathouse opened in 2007, funded in part by contributions from members of the Billygoats Society, a charity which provides financial support to the Boat Club.

Please contact the Boat Club Captain if you wish to join the Boat Club.

Squash Courts

College members are free to use the purpose-built Squash Courts at the front of the College.

Table Tennis

The Squash Courts at the front of the College also feature a number of table tennis tables. Booking in advance is recommended to ensure you have a table to play on.

Badminton Court

The College Auditorium in Gatehouse Court also features a full badminton court which is available for use on Wednesdays.
