Sports Facilities

As you can see on the Clubs and Societies page, there are a huge number of sports played at Fitz, both competitively and for fun and recreation. Some sports require dedicated facilities, and on this page you can get an overview of what's available at Fitz.

Gym

The two-storey 24hr multi-gym was opened in 2015, in same building as the Squash Courts. The gym has a good range of cardio and strength equipment and designated hours for Women and NB members. The College FITZPump society organise group training sessions. College members must have an induction prior to using the gym; please speak to the Porters for details. You can book slots on MyFitz.

Oxford Road playing fields

Unlike most of the historic colleges, we are very lucky to have large playing fields and changing facilities / clubhouse, just five minutes from the College, at Oxford Road. Whether you're a player or a spectator, Oxford Road is the home of cricket, rugby, football and any other sport that needs some space. The playing fields are managed by the Groundsman, Dave Norman.

Rowing

The College Boat Club's new boathouse opened in 2007, funded in part by contributions from members of the Billygoats Society, a charity which provides financial support to the Boat Club. Students from across the college community get involved in rowing - some have rowed before, lots haven't. If you'd like to have a go, you can.

Squash

College members are free to use the purpose-built Squash Courts which are located at the front of the College, by the gym. Booking in advance is recommended to ensure you have a court to play on.

Table tennis

The Squash Courts at the front of the College also feature a number of table tennis tables. Booking in advance is recommended to ensure you have a table to play on.

Badminton

The College Auditorium in Gatehouse Court also features a full badminton court which is available for use on Wednesdays.

University Sports Centre

Fitz is a short walk - or even quicker cycle - from the new University Sports Centre. You can find out more about the facilities available here, or watch the video.

Support for your sport

Thanks to many years of alumni support, the College has dedicated funds for sporting activities - both at club level (purchase of team kit, equipment etc.), and individual needs. We firmly believe that no one should be held back from participation in sport (or other activities) because of financial hardship, so do please consider applying to one of the many sources of funding during your time at the College. Current members are able to view the funding directory by clicking here.
