James Brind is a Research Associate at the Whittle Laboratory in the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. He is a Mechanical Engineer specialising in the Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics of turbomachinery used for power generation and aircraft propulsion.

Increasing turbomachinery efficiency is an important contribution to reducing fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

He matriculated in 2010 to read the Engineering Tripos at Peterhouse, before moving to Corpus Christi College for postgraduate study, arriving at Fitzwilliam College in 2019. He obtained the MRes and PhD degrees for experimental and computational work on the design of turbine cooling systems. He is now working on the problem of thermoacoustic oscillation, an unstable coupling between combustion and sound waves, which remains a major obstacle to the design of future, low-emission gas turbines.

More information can be found on his personal webpage.
